Advice for Golfers
We have listed the below points for you to consider and check before using one of our entry-forms to enter any of the open competitions listed on the Golf Empire website. Hopefully they will prove useful and informative when entering open competitions via our website.
-
Whilst we make every effort to ensure that all information is correct on our website Golf Empire is not responsible for any errors, inaccuracies or omissions including on online entry-forms. Competitors are advised to check and confirm all details are correct with the host golf club or organisers prior to entering/playing as occasionally dates, fees and other conditions of entry may change.
-
The main details of each competition and any special notices are usually listed on the entry-form, however, below is some very important information to consider before entering any competitions:
-
1. Dress Rules.
-
Most golf clubs operate strict dress rules which include restrictions on certain types of clothing, eg: denim, collarless shirts, shorts, socks etc.... Several clubs also require golfers to change their attire after play or wear a jacket & tie if a meal is included.
-
2. Handicap Certificates.
-
Always take a current 'active/competition' handicap certificate (preferably dated within 7 days) to the event. Sometimes these are required at registration and more than often will be required if you play well enough to finish amongst the prizes.
-
3. Spikes.
-
Many clubs now operate a 'soft spikes only' policy. If you have metal spikes it is recommended that you confirm that they can be worn on the golf course otherwise you will be required to change them on the day.
-
4. Prize Presentation.
-
Winners (or their representatives) are usually required to attend the presentation otherwise you might forfeit your prize. Note that sometimes the presentation is held on a different day, eg: Festivals of golf.
-
5. Catering.
-
If food is included within the cost of entry we always do our best to indicate this on the entry-form. If nothing is stated and you are likely to require a meal on the day it is advised that you check to see if catering will be available on the day and/or if booking is required.
-
6. Caddies.
-
Caddies are usually allowed (except Junior events) but it is always best to confirm this.
-
7. Buggies.
-
Check to see if buggies are allowed/available and if a booking or doctors note is required.
-
8. Ties and Play-offs.
-
Ties are usually decided on a card countback, however, some events do have a play-off or share the prize.
-
9. Refunds.
-
Refunds will usually not be given to withdrawals after a certain date. If you have to withdraw from an event don't expect to get your money back! Sometimes replacements are allowed.
-
10. Local Rulings.
-
Always check the local rulings at the host golf club eg: Use of GPS measuring devices, plugged balls etc...
-
11. Full Playing Member.
-
If you are not a full playing member of a golf club affiliated to the English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish Golf Unions with an official handicap or equivalent then check if you are allowed to enter as the majority of open competitions do require this.
-
12. Full Terms & Conditions.
-
You can of course request the full terms & conditions of each tournament which if you are unsure of anything we recommend that you do.
-
13. Senior Competitions.
-
These are usually for golfers aged 55+ and stated on the entry-form but if not please always check this with host golf club as sometimes it can be as low as 50 or as high as 70.
-
14. Junior competitions.
-
These are usually for golfers under the age of 18 on the 1st January and stated on the entry-form but if not please always check with the host golf club as this is not always the case.
-
15. Cheques.
-
Post dated cheques are usually not accepted although occasionally are required but this should be stated on the entry-form.
-
16. Insurance.
-
Competitors are advised to arrange their own insurance cover against insurance risks when playing at other golf courses, eg: theft, injury, accidents.
-
17. Number of Holes.
-
Tournaments are usually 18 hole competitions unless specified otherwise.
-
18. Registration.
-
Ensure that you arrive at the course in plenty of time so that you can register and make your way to the first tee in readiness to commence play at your stipulated start time.
-
19. Start Time Preference.
-
Note that the start time preference you provide on the entry-form is not guaranteed to be granted. Whilst the tournament orgainser will always do their best to accommodate your request please be aware that due to availability you may not get your chosen time or one close to it. We suggest requesting an 'early', 'mid' or 'late' slot rather than a specific time, eg: 10.00am.
-
20. Closing Date.
-
The majority of open competitions are operated on a 'first-come, first-served basis' and we always urge you to send your entry off as soon as possible. Even when a closing date is stated entries may close before this if the event becomes oversubscribed.
