Founded in March 1902, Braemar is the UK's highest 18-hole course — around 1,200 feet above sea level in the Cairngorms National Park, a few miles from Balmoral. At par 65 over 4,935 yards it's short but interesting, with eight par 3s and the River Clunie in play on several holes. The greens are widely regarded as among the finest in the region. Braemar joins Ballater, Banchory and Aboyne in the Royal Deeside Golf Week.

Open competitions are organised through the North East District, with multi-club fixtures like the Royal Deeside Golf Week, the 5-Day Individual Open (Kintore, McDonald, Oldmeldrum, Insch and Alford) and the Aberdeen Coast Links Championship between Trump International and Cruden Bay drawing visitors from across the country. Beyond the golf, the Cairngorms, the Speyside whisky trail and the rugged Aberdeenshire coast give visiting players plenty to explore between rounds.
