Founded in 1900 at Morley between Leeds and Wakefield, Howley Hall is a moorland-character championship course shaped by Dr Alister MacKenzie's 1913 advice and a 2013 bunker renovation by Jonathan Gaunt. The signature par-3 18th over a steep ravine is among Yorkshire's most distinctive holes. A former Open Qualifying venue, the club runs one of the deepest open calendars in the county.

A Patrick Dawson-designed parkland course laid out in 1992 across 145 acres around the magnificent 18th-century Hatfeild Hall, with tree-lined fairways, streams and lakes adding challenge to large strategic greens and well-placed bunkering.
View events →West Yorkshire is home to one of the most concentrated stretches of MacKenzie heathland golf in the world. Alwoodley — Dr Alister MacKenzie's first solo design from 1907 — and Moortown, the 1909 MacKenzie course that hosted the first Ryder Cup played in Britain in 1929, sit alongside Sand Moor as a triumvirate of heathland courses on the northern edge of Leeds — all bearing the unmistakable strategic shaping of the architect who would go on to design Augusta National and Cypress Point.
The Yorkshire Challenge rotates Moortown with Lindrick and Ganton each September, while the Pairs Tour Yorkshire Five — a five-day rotation across Fulford, Alwoodley, Ganton, Moor Allerton and Moortown — remains one of the marquee multi-day amateur events on the British calendar each June. With the M1, M62 and direct rail from Leeds to London Kings Cross, plus the historic city of Leeds itself, the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales drawing visitors year-round, the county is one of the most rewarding destinations in northern England for amateur tournament play.
