Hampshire is one of the deepest golfing counties in the south of England, home to a stretch of the celebrated sand belt that runs through Surrey and Berkshire and produces some of the country's finest heathland golf. Liphook, opened in 1923, was an early R&A-recognised exemplar of strategic course design and remains the only Hampshire course in the Top 100 of Britain & Ireland. Hampshire had one of the first county golf unions in England, founded in 1893, and its competitive culture runs deep. The open competition calendar covers everything from junior opens through to the Hampshire Hog and Hampshire Rose national amateur events at North Hants, taking in pairs, team, mixed, seniors and scratch formats at well over fifty host clubs. The mix of heathland, links, parkland and New Forest courses inside a county that's well served by the M3, A3 and south coast rail line makes it straightforward to plan a multi-event weekend or build a season around several venues.
