Open Competitions in Nottinghamshire

Why Enter an Open Golf Event in Nottinghamshire?

Nottinghamshire is home to one of the great heathland golf landscapes in England, with the free-draining sandy soil of Sherwood Forest producing a quality of inland golf rivalled only by the Surrey-Berkshire belt. Notts (Hollinwell) — Willie Park Jr's 1901 heathland masterpiece — is consistently ranked in the world's top 100 and has hosted everything from the Brabazon Trophy to the English Amateur. Sherwood Forest's Harry Colt 1916 layout at Mansfield is also an England Top 100 fixture, and the Heathland Classic rotates the two with Lindrick across three glorious days each June.

Beyond the marquee tier, Coxmoor brings a third heathland venue with one of the most active scratch open programmes in the East Midlands. With the M1, A1 and East Coast Main Line all running through Nottinghamshire, the county is one of the most accessible heathland-golf destinations in the country — and it remains a consistently rewarding choice for amateur tournament play across the marquee venues and a deep network of well-presented club courses.
