East Brighton Golf Club

Founded in 1893 with its present layout opened in 1908 as the work of James Braid — chosen ahead of Willie Park Jr — East Brighton sits on the South Downs above the Sussex coast. A chalk subsoil produces firm, fast year-round conditions, with sweeping coastal views and a Grade-listed clubhouse. The club runs one of the deepest open calendars on the south coast and hosts a leg of the South Coast Challenge each August.

Why Enter an Open Golf Event in Sussex?

Sussex offers one of the most varied competitive golf calendars in the south-east, blending the chalk-downland clifftop courses of the Brighton coast with the Wealden heath country inland. Royal Ashdown Forest's bunkerless 1888 heathland and West Sussex's 1930 Hutchison-and-Park Jr layout at Pulborough are both England Top 100 fixtures, while Rye's Old and Jubilee links on Camber Sands — home of the President's Putter each January — bring a third heritage venue to the east of the county.

The South Coast Challenge rotates annually across Seaford, Seaford Head and East Brighton in mid-August and remains one of the marquee multi-day amateur events in the south. With direct rail from London Victoria and London Bridge to the Sussex coast and the South Downs National Park itself drawing visitors year-round, the county is one of the most accessible and rewarding destinations in southern England for amateur tournament play.
