Founded in 1896 and settled at Edgbaston Park in 1936, the course is the work of Harry S. Colt — reputedly his final design at age 76 — routed across 144 acres of mature parkland beside Edgbaston Pool. Consistently rated among the top three courses in Warwickshire, with the Grade II listed Georgian Edgbaston Hall as the clubhouse, the club runs one of the busiest annual open programmes in the West Midlands.

Copt Heath's 1907 Harry Vardon design at Knowle and Coventry's 1887 Finham Park layout — one of the oldest clubs in the Midlands — sit alongside Olton's long-established parkland course at Solihull as the heritage heart of the calendar. The county's flagship open events — including the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath, the Finham Bowl at Coventry and the Olton Cup & Bowl — remain landmark fixtures on the West Midlands amateur calendar.
The county is also home to The Belfry's Brabazon Course — four-time Ryder Cup host and one of the most recognisable championship venues in England. With the M6, M40 and M42 all converging through Warwickshire and direct rail to Birmingham, Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon, the county is one of the most accessible destinations in the country for amateur tournament play, particularly for visiting competitors travelling from the South East and the North.
