 Golf Course Overview

North Inch Golf Course is one of the oldest golf venues in the world – the first recorded golf here dates to 1599, and golf has probably been played on this parkland by the River Tay for well over 500 years. The course has grown from a 6-hole layout in the south of the park, to 10 (c.1860), then 12 (1865), and finally 18 holes in 1892 when Muirton Field was acquired from Lord Mansfield and six new holes were laid out by Old Tom Morris. The present 18-hole parkland course measures 5,442 yards off the medal tees with a par of 68, combining parkland character with a links feel at certain holes. The River Tay comes into play on several holes, and the course is deliberately set up to reward a good round rather than punish wayward shots – giving beginners and high-handicappers a fair chance without dulling the test for low handicappers.

North Inch is a municipal course managed by Perth & Kinross Council and offers outstanding value – juniors play free with a paying adult and free club hire is available to all. Changing facilities are in the adjacent Bells Sports Centre. Five historic clubs play here – Royal Perth Golfing Society (founded 1824, first-ever "Royal" club), The Perth Artisans, Perth Ladies, The Letham Club and Perth Railway Golf Club – with North Inch Junior Golf Club also in residence. Located within North Inch parkland, the course is a short walk from Perth city centre and easily reached from the A9.
