Golf Course Overview
Winterfield Golf Club sits on the North Road on the western edge of Dunbar and was officially opened as a municipal course in June 1948, although golf had been played over the site since 1935. The James Braid-designed 18-hole layout is classified as a links course but features both links and parkland holes, playing to a par of 65 over around 5,169 yards – a modest length but one that conceals a genuine test of golf when the prevailing south-westerlies blow, particularly through a demanding back-nine. Notable holes include the intimidating first "Whelkie Haugh," the 236-yard par-3 ninth "The School" and the finishing par-4 18th "St Margaret's." The course has produced a rich lineage of junior champions who have gone on to professional careers, including Raymond Russell, Scott Gourlay and Lee Harper.
Winterfield enjoys spectacular views across the Firth of Forth to the Bass Rock, the Isle of May and with the Lammermuir Hills as a backdrop. The Bunker Bar and Fairway Restaurant are housed in the beautiful St Margaret's House clubhouse, offering dining with fine sea views, and Dunbar's famously clement weather (it is the "sunshine capital of Scotland") means the course is rarely closed. Facilities include a pro shop with tuition and club fitting, changing rooms, showers and visitor-friendly green-fee packages.

"There are a handful of holes at Winterfield which just about make it worth a visit."
Located close to Dunbar it's an easy course to access from the A1 for those travelling from England to Scotland or vice-versa. It's nowhere near the quality of Dunbar Links but neither is its green-fee. Winterfield offers accessible golf at a modest price.
