Golf Course Overview
Wick Golf Club was founded in September 1870, making it the oldest established golf club in the Highlands of Scotland. Originally founded by Sir George Dunbar and a group of enthusiasts after several months of informal play on South Head overlooking Wick Bay, the course was extended from 9 to 18 holes in 1906-07 following funding from Lady Louisa Duff Dunbar and a design by John Sutherland, the renowned Secretary of Royal Dornoch. The traditional out-and-back links measures 6,039 yards with a par of 69 at Reiss Links, with the course lengthened and refined by Ronan Rafferty in 2000. The signature par-3 9th plays a 150-yard approach alongside the River Wester over a burn to a small green nestled in the dunes.
The new clubhouse offers a welcoming 19th hole where members and visitors can enjoy a wee dram of Old Pulteney from the nearby award-winning local distillery. No pro shop, but clubs, pull/powered trolleys and buggies are available to hire, alongside an irons-only practice area and putting green. Wick operates a flexible walk-on policy with no time limitations and is playable all year round with rarely any winter tees or greens in use, with the 18th offering a stunning panorama of Sinclair Bay's unspoiled white sands and four historic castles.

Upon arrival at the coastal course Club Captain, Catherine McLeod, energetically tells us all about a plethora of planned changes to the course in what promises to be exciting times ahead for Wick under the guidance of a new greenkeeper, a scratch golfer, who started work on the links last October.
