We played this course last week, I have played lots of top class courses I rate this one right up there with the best, every hole seem to be better than the last one, the nearest course I have played to this was Barnboogle in Tasmania.

If you are a golf enthusiast who wants to play the best put this one on your list well done.

 Golf Course Overview

Trump International Golf Links, Scotland is a modern championship links set amidst "The Great Dunes of Scotland" on a three-mile stretch of North Sea coastline at the Menie Estate in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire. Donald Trump purchased the 1,400-acre plot in 2006, and after a controversial planning inquiry the course — designed by Dr Martin Hawtree of the eminent Hawtree family — opened in July 2012 following seven years of development. The Old Course plays to a par of 72 over 7,428 yards, routed in the classical "two out-and-back loops of nine" pattern through towering dunes that reach up to 100 feet in height, rising to sweeping views of the North Sea before plunging into secluded duneland valleys. With six tees or more on every hole the course is accessible to all standards, while the back markers tip out as one of the longest in the UK. In August 2025 the links made its DP World Tour debut hosting the Scottish Championship. Planning consent was granted in October 2020 for a second 18-hole course which opened as the New in 2025.

Facilities include the MacLeod House & Lodge providing on-site luxury accommodation, the granite Dunes Restaurant & Bar clubhouse (open 06:30 to 21:00 daily), a 22-acre driving range with north and south facing tees, an extensive short game area and a 3,500 square-metre putting green. The resort sits 14 km north of Aberdeen, accessed from the A90 and B977, 16 km from Aberdeen city centre and roughly 25 minutes from Aberdeen International Airport.

"The first thing to state is that Trump International Golf Links is undoubtedly an exceptionally good golf course. The second thing to say from the off is that it’s categorically not the “World's Greatest Golf Course” as the owner makes out and their website brashly proclaims."

The 7,428 yard, par-72 links at Balmedie was designed by Dr. Martin Hawtree and is laid out in two loops of nine holes that return us to the attractive clubhouse at the halfway stage. It’s a tough course for sure but there are multiple tee-options to choose from which could potentially bring it down to a mere 5,845 yards and slightly less from the ladies red tees which makes it more than playable for most. Located on a Site of Special Scientific Interest it opened its doors for play amid much furore in the summer 2012 but that’s another story entirely.
