Golf Course Overview

Teignmouth Golf Club opened in 1924 with a course designed by the legendary Dr Alister MacKenzie — creator of Augusta National, home of the US Masters — making it one of the most historically significant layouts in Devon. The 18-hole moorland/heathland course sits on Little Haldon at more than 800 feet above sea level and measures 6,082 yards to a par of 69. MacKenzie's trademark design features are well preserved here, notably eleven two-tier greens, undulating putting surfaces and strategically placed mounding. Six varied and demanding par 3s punctuate the round, and the elevated position produces sweeping views of the Teign estuary, Berry Head, Dartmoor's tors and on clear days eastwards to Portland Bill.

The course has hosted the West of England Professional Championship and qualifying for the News of the World Matchplay Championship and remains remarkably little changed from its original routing, with only the 13th hole significantly altered following wartime use. Facilities include a welcoming clubhouse with bar, catering and function space, a pro shop and practice area. Visitors are welcomed daily subject to advance booking; juniors receive a discount and the club runs a strong competition calendar. Teignmouth Golf Club sits on Haldon Moor off the B3192 Higher Exeter Road, around two miles from the seaside town of Teignmouth and easily reached from the A380.
