Golf Course Overview
Stockport Golf Club was founded in 1905 and incorporated in 1908. The original course was designed by Alex "Sandy" Herd, the 1902 Open Champion, with extensive renovation and improvements subsequently undertaken by Harry Colt in 1918; Hawtree Ltd and Ken Moodie (1999) have made further refinements. The 18-hole parkland course plays to a par of 71 over approximately 6,373 yards from the white tees, and although the terrain appears flat from the clubhouse, a pronounced gulley winding across the opening par 4, the par-3 16th, and the short 17th and 18th adds real character. Good-width fairways, a generous second cut, superb greens and an absence of water hazards provide a confident yet absorbing test. The course has hosted five Open Regional Qualifying Tournaments and numerous county championships; the 1929 American Ryder Cup team, led by Walter Hagen, played a warm-up match at Stockport against local amateurs prior to their tie at Moortown.
The large and spacious clubhouse retains the fine traditions of the club with bar, dining, function rooms and changing facilities, and a well-presented pro shop. Visitors and societies are welcomed and the club enjoys high levels of demand for membership and corporate days. Stockport is on Offerton Road in Offerton, a short drive from junction 1 of the M60 and the A6.

I recently played here in an open competition and as you would expect it was set-up perfectly. The greens were superb and the entire course was presented exceptionally well.
