Golf Course Overview

Sidmouth Golf Club was founded in 1889 and is among the older clubs in Devon, with the present layout attributed to five-time Open champion J.H. Taylor, who reworked the course in 1905. The 18-hole parkland course measures 5,127 yards to a par of 66 with a course rating of 65.8 and slope of 116, running across undulating terrain in the hills above the town. The front nine generally climbs away from the clubhouse while the back nine returns downhill, and blind shots and side-slopes make this a course where accuracy and local knowledge matter far more than length. Unusually for the South Devon coast, the course occupies a position that is largely sheltered from the prevailing winds.

The clubhouse is known for its panoramic views over the Regency town of Sidmouth and across Lyme Bay to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, and the club has a strong local reputation for catering, a well-stocked bar at reasonable prices and a particularly friendly informal atmosphere. Visitors, groups and societies are warmly welcomed, and a resident PGA professional offers tuition. Sidmouth Golf Club is located on Cotmaton Road on the western edge of Sidmouth, an easy walk from the seafront and a short drive from the A3052.
