Golf Course Overview

Sherborne Golf Club was founded in 1894 and occupies gently undulating parkland at Higher Clatcombe, on rising ground north of the town. The 18-hole layout was designed by five-time Open champion James Braid, and plays to a par of 72 over approximately 6,436 yards from the back tees. A member of the Association of James Braid Golf Courses, the course retains many of Braid's signature features — doglegs, strategic bunkering and subtly-contoured greens — and is widely regarded as one of the most enjoyable rounds in the county, with sweeping views across the Blackmore Vale into Somerset.

Facilities include a welcoming clubhouse with bar, restaurant and terrace, locker rooms, a well-stocked pro shop with electric trolley and buggy hire, and substantial practice areas. The club's new practice facility opens in 2026, featuring a 12-bay covered and 6 open-bay driving range with a Trackman studio, alongside the existing pitching, putting and bunker practice areas. A thriving junior academy and a wide range of membership categories make the club accessible to all, and there are reciprocal arrangements with a number of local clubs. Sherborne is reached easily from the A30 and A352 and the town is on the direct rail line from London Waterloo.
