 Golf Course Overview

Scotscraig Golf Club was founded in 1817 by members of the Society of St Andrews Golfers (the group that later became the Royal & Ancient Golf Club) who wished to play more golf than the Society's occasional meetings afforded them – making Scotscraig the 13th oldest golf club in the world. Designed under the guidance of Old Tom Morris and subsequently refined by James Braid in 1923, the course is a rare and unique blend of links and heathland: sandy soil, fescue and gorse of classic links, complemented by rolling woodlands not found on most links courses. Measuring 6,669 yards with a par of 71 (rating 72.5, slope 127), the course has served as a six-time Open Championship Final Qualifying venue and has hosted Scottish Seniors (2002), Ladies Home Internationals (2013), Scottish Boys and Girls Amateur Championships (2017) and the 2018 Senior Open Qualifying. The sand-based turf ensures year-round golf, and Justin Rose has described it as "a great course, great greens and very friendly."

The Scotscraig clubhouse oozes character, with memorabilia displayed throughout recording major championships held at the club. The Dining Room overlooks the 18th green and serves dinners and high teas. Visitors are welcomed every day – green fees range from around £75-£90 in summer with discounted twilight rates. Pro Shop, driving range and short-game practice area are available. Located on Golf Road in Tayport on the Tay Estuary, 10 miles north of St Andrews and 4 miles southeast of Dundee via the Tay Road Bridge, following the A919/B945.

Scotscraig

★★★★ ★
4.0/5

"During a recent family holiday to Edinburgh an afternoon pass from the wife gave my son and I the opportunity to drive 90 minutes north to Tayport for a round of golf."

Despite many previous visits to Fife and travels through Dundee, to the links of Angus and beyond, Scotscraig is a course that had always eluded me.
