Golf Course Overview

Sand Martins Golf Club opened in 1993 after Edward T. Fox purchased a 120-acre site on the southern edge of Wokingham in 1991 and designed the current 18-hole layout himself. The course is notable for its two distinctly different nines: the front nine to the north of the clubhouse is parkland in character, laced with lakes and water hazards, while the back nine to the south adopts an inland-links style, featuring sand banks, broom, heavy rough and a series of deep revetted bunkers. It plays to a par of 70 over around 6,232 yards, with greens built to USGA specifications that have earned praise for their trueness and pace. Memorable holes include the water-guarded par three 8th, the uphill 13th, and the aptly named "Deception" 15th, which features a ravine cutting across the fairway.

The clubhouse offers a bar and restaurant, a private function room with dance floor and balcony, changing rooms, extensive practice facilities including a range and short-game area, and a pro shop with PGA teaching staff. Sand Martins welcomes society and corporate days and is widely regarded as one of the South East's more popular venues for group golf. It is located on Finchampstead Road in Wokingham, just off the A321, and is readily reached from junction 10 of the M4 and junction 3 of the M3.
