Golf Course Overview
Rosehearty Golf Club has a long if intermittent history: the first formally instituted club dates from 1883 under the captaincy of Colonel Dingwall Fordyce, although golf is known to have been played on this stretch of the Buchan coast from as early as the time of the first Lord Pitsligo. After several periods of dormancy through the first half of the 20th century, the present club was re-founded in 1971 on the same historic links-land site below the ruins of Pitsligo Castle, immediately adjacent to the beach at the western end of the village. The nine-hole course is a delightful hybrid of links and parkland — rolling duneland terrain close to the sea but with surprisingly lush turf — and plays to a par of 31 over 2,214 yards for 9 holes (par 62 and around 4,460 yards if played twice over). Small, subtly undulating greens place a premium on accuracy and short-game touch, and the setting (featured in the Burt Lancaster film "Local Hero") offers panoramic views across the Moray Firth.
The clubhouse is modest but welcoming, and The Masons Arms Hotel, Inn and Restaurant immediately across the road acts as the unofficial 19th hole. Visitors are welcomed on weekdays and weekends by prior booking. Rosehearty sits four miles west of Fraserburgh on Aberdeenshire's north-facing coast.

I dubiously added this thrill-a-minute nine-holer to my latest Scottish golf trip because whilst it did not feature in the True Links book I had heard reports it should have been included as a genuine links.
