 Golf Course Overview

Portal Golf Club (formerly Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa) offers 45 holes of golf at Cobblers Cross just outside Tarporley, and has become one of the finest inland venues in the North West. The Championship course, designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1990, stretches to 7,037 yards from the back tees with a par of 73. Distinctive themed holes such as "Agincourt" (the 1st) and "Waterloo" (the 17th), a 602-yard par-5 3rd, expansive water hazards and cascading waterfalls contribute to a challenging, stadium-style layout that won regional Golf Course of the Year in 1995 and has held numerous qualifiers. The Premier course (18 holes, par 71, approximately 6,517 yards), laid out over the dramatic natural undulations of the Cheshire sandstone ridge, offers a more rugged, hillier test, and the 9-hole par-30 Arderne course provides a relaxed setting for beginners and quick rounds.

On-site facilities include one of Europe's largest indoor golf academies, a fully stocked pro shop, practice area, bar and catering. A four-star hotel and spa sit alongside the golf and host weddings, conferences and golf breaks. Portal is on Cobblers Cross Lane, a short drive from Tarporley village and junction 10 of the M53, with the A49 giving easy access from Chester and the wider North West.
