Golf Course Overview

Okehampton Golf Club was founded in 1913 and occupies a distinctive setting within an ancient deer park on the northern fringe of Dartmoor National Park, with the West Okement river running along its northern boundary and mature oak woodland framing many of the holes. The 18-hole course plays to a par of 68 at around 5,249 yards with a course rating of 67.0 and slope of 127. Although it plays like parkland it is technically a moorland layout, and the greens are among the fastest and most demanding in Devon. Holes cut through the old deer park with imaginative routing, most notably the short par-3 12th at just 94 yards, which becomes surprisingly tricky when the wind blows, with the river lurking left and behind the green.

The clubhouse has been enhanced in recent years with improved restaurant and bar facilities and BT Sport on television, and further on-site facilities include a pro shop, practice area and changing rooms. Visitors, holidaymakers and societies are all welcomed and handicap certificates are not required. Deer can often be spotted grazing the course at dusk or early morning. Okehampton sits just off Tors Road a short walk from the centre of Okehampton, reached via junction 31 of the A30 and convenient for exploring Dartmoor.
