Golf Course Overview
Founded in 1893, Newtonmore Golf Club began as a 9-hole course and was extended to 18 holes in 1906. The layout was tweaked by Old Tom Morris in 1896, who declared it one of the best inland courses he had played, with later refinements by James Braid. The parkland course measures 6,031 yards with a par of 70 and is laid out on the ancient flood plain of the River Spey, offering easy-walking fairways and subtle greens with a 360-degree backdrop of the Grampian and Monadhliath Mountains. Tight par-4s and just a single par-5 mean accuracy off the tee is paramount, with the wind changing direction throughout the round.
The clubhouse offers bar and restaurant facilities alongside a small shop for golfing essentials, with buggy hire and discounts for larger parties. The club registered as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2024 with a particular focus on junior play, hosts a popular Golf Week in the first week of August, and has reciprocal arrangements with nearby Kingussie. Easily reached off the A9, around an hour from Inverness and 12 miles south of Aviemore, with Newtonmore railway station on the Highland Main Line just a short walk from the course.
