 Golf Course Overview

Newport Golf Club was founded in 1903 at Ladyhill — with a first layout by Harry Vardon — and moved to its present Great Oak site at Rogerstone in 1912, where Willie Fernie designed the current course. The 18-hole parkland course sits 300 feet above sea level on an inland plateau and measures more than 6,500 yards. Set amongst the birch, beech and oak trees of Llwyni Wood, the ancient woodland surrounds much of the course and contributes to the overall beauty and challenge. Gentle slopes and undulations, large teeing areas, well-manicured fairways and excellent putting surfaces provide a testing challenge for golfers of all standards — the course is ranked Wales' 24th best by Golf World (2023).

The club celebrated its centenary in 2003 and has hosted a number of prestigious Welsh and National Amateur events. The clubhouse has been extensively restored and modernised, providing a relaxing and friendly atmosphere with bar and catering. Just six miles west of Celtic Manor, Newport is easily accessed from Junction 27 of the M4 via the B4591 — follow the signs for High Cross and turn right into Great Oaks Park after 1.2 miles.
