Golf Course Overview

Newbattle Golf Club was laid out in 1933–34 by the renowned architect Harry S. Colt on land within the historic policies of Newbattle Abbey, just outside Dalkeith. The 18-hole parkland course measures 5,912 yards to a par of 69 and is defined by mature tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers and a set of outstanding greens widely regarded as among the finest in the Lothians. The opening two and closing two holes play along a ridge on which the clubhouse stands, while the remainder runs on the lower ground alongside the River Esk, with the 15th-century Maidens Brig (a scheduled monument and one of only two of its kind in the UK) carrying players from the 2nd to the 3rd hole. The par-5 13th "Lucky Dip" and the par-4 18th "Hame" are among the most memorable holes.

Set within woodland on every side – especially spectacular in autumn – the course offers a sense of seclusion surprising for a venue just seven miles from Edinburgh. Facilities include a welcoming clubhouse with a bar and restaurant of genuine repute, a well-stocked pro shop, practice nets and putting green, pull and battery trolley hire, and a limited selection of buggies. The club hosts many championship events and welcomes visitors weekdays year-round.
