 Golf Course Overview

Llanymynech Golf Club was founded in 1933 and expanded from its original nine holes to its present 18-hole par 70 layout of around 6,036 yards, with James Braid credited with the early course design. The club's most remarkable feature is that the course straddles the Welsh-English border: 15 holes sit in Wales and three in England, with the par 4 fourth famously allowing golfers to tee off in Wales and putt out in England before returning across the border on the 7th tee. Offa's Dyke Path crosses the course, and from the higher ground players can see across as many as a dozen old counties towards the Snowdonia mountains and the Shropshire Plain. The layout mixes parkland and moorland character, with blind shots, elevated tees and natural limestone features.

Perhaps best known as the club where Ian Woosnam learned his golf, Llanymynech still shows the Ryder Cup captain's record score on the honours board. Long-serving professional Andy Griffiths offers tuition from the well-stocked shop, and facilities include a restaurant and bar, driving range, putting green, club rental and buggy hire. Visitors and societies are welcome, and the course regularly hosts open competitions. The club stands above the village of Pant, a short drive south of Oswestry off the A483.
