Golf Course Overview
Kington Golf Club lays claim to being the highest 18-hole golf course in England, with its layout on Bradnor Hill rising to 1,284 feet above sea level — a figure proudly carried on the club's logo. Designed in 1926 by Major Cecil K. Hutchison, who also contributed to the design of Gleneagles, the course is laid out on National Trust land that is still grazed by sheep, giving a naturally close, springy turf often described as inland-links. The course plays to a par of 70 over approximately 5,873 yards, has no sand bunkers or water hazards in its entire routing, and instead relies on grassy hollows, slopes and banks of gorse and bracken for its defence. Particularly memorable holes include the par-3 9th (Bryn Awelon) with its sweeping borderland views, the reachable par-5 14th, and the unique par-4 18th played back down towards the pro shop.
The clubhouse offers bar and catering with extensive views, and there is a PGA professional, pro shop and practice facilities on site; Offa's Dyke Path crosses a couple of holes near the clubhouse. Visitors are welcome seven days a week and can book online or through the Pro Shop, with clubs available to hire. The course sits above the small market town of Kington on the English-Welsh border, reached via the B4355 north-west of Hereford, and is typically ranked among the best in Herefordshire and is often listed among England's top-rated courses.

"There's something quite remarkable about Kington. It has what I call the 'Double Q' factor; Quirk and Quality."
It has a similar eccentric personality to many other hilltop layouts as well as good turf, natural contours, kooky features and plenty of undulation. But where Kington really excels is that is has very few weak elements; no moments of absurdity that often blight related courses.
