 Golf Course Overview

Known locally as "Fixby" after the Grade II listed manor house that serves as its splendid clubhouse, Huddersfield Golf Club was founded in 1891 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious championship courses in the north of England. The original layout by Tom Dunn has been refined over the decades by a roll call of leading architects including Sandy Herd (the club's first professional and 1902 Open champion), Herbert Fowler, Dr Alister MacKenzie, Fred Hawtree and Donald Steel, with Cameron Sinclair upgrading all 18 greens to USGA standard in 2004. The parkland course plays to a par of 71 over 6,499 yards with a slope of 143, with two returning loops of nine, strategic bunkering (recently restored by Swan Golf Design to its traditional character), and the demanding stroke-index-1 par-5 5th as a standout hole.

Huddersfield is officially the "Home of Yorkshire Golf" — all the Yorkshire Union honours boards are displayed in the Centenary Hall — and has hosted the Lawrence Batley Seniors' Tournament, numerous Yorkshire Championships, Brabazon Qualifying, the Seniors Ladies' Home Internationals and the DP World Tour Qualifying School. The clubhouse offers the Fallon Dining Room, Fixby Room and Sandy Herd Lounge alongside a pro shop, practice range and putting green. Visitors are warmly welcomed at the club, which sits a couple of miles north of Huddersfield town centre, easily reached via junction 24 of the M62.

★★★★ ★
4.1/5

"Huddersfield Golf Club is probably not given the sufficient coverage it deserves on a national scale. It's a very, very fine golf course."

As a regular host to the Yorkshire County Championship and lauded by locals it is well respected within the White Rose County of Yorkshire. But ask golfers further afield and the majority don't know about 'Fixby'.
