Golf Course Overview
Hopeman Golf Club was founded in 1909 and originally played over 9 holes before being extended to 18 in 1985, with further work by Tom MacKenzie in 2018. The predominantly links course measures 5,624 yards with a par of 68, with most fairways flanked by gorse and broom that add both colour and challenge. The signature par-3 12th, "Prieshach", plays from an elevated tee down to a green in Clashach Cove over 150 feet below, with panoramic views across the Moray Firth where dolphins are regularly seen; Paul Lawrie, the club's Honorary President, has described it as one of the best par-3s he has ever played.
The clubhouse, known as The Mashie Niblick, serves freshly cooked homemade food, and the club welcomes visitors throughout the year. The course has recently been lengthened with many new bunkers added and the par-5 4th reshaped into a dogleg by selective tree planting. Hopeman sits on the Moray coast just off the B9040, about 8 miles north-west of Elgin.

Golf Empire Verdict
Hopeman
"Hopeman is an enthralling clifftop links that just gets better and better as the round progresses, both in terms of the golf and the location."
The 18 holes move gradually closer and closer to the sea and as the terrain improves so does the quality of the holes. That's not to say they are poor to start off with because Hopeman is a splendid golf course and one I'm sure their members must be extremely proud of. The condition of the greens was the best that we played on a trip that consisted of nine courses, one of which was an Open Championship links plus several other notable venues.
