 Golf Course Overview

Hessle Golf Club was originally founded in 1898 and moved to its current home at Raywell in the early 1970s, when 120 acres of farmland were secured and Peter Alliss, Dave Thomas and Partners were engaged to design and construct a new 18-hole layout. The course was handed over to the club in 1974 and now measures around 6,621 yards to a par of 72. By the 1990s all eighteen greens had been rebuilt to USGA specification, with surrounds and bunkering redesigned at the same time, and further lakes have been added between the fifth and sixth and at the par-3 sixteenth. Despite the yardage the terrain is gentle and the walking is easy, with thousands of mature trees planted over the decades framing the fairways.

The clubhouse offers a bar, dining and function facilities, and practice facilities include a putting green and practice area. PGA professional Steve Alsop heads up coaching and the pro shop. Visitors are welcomed, though tee-time restrictions apply before 11.30 at weekends and before noon on Tuesdays (ladies' day). Hessle sits in a secluded rural setting at Raywell, just north-west of Hull between the villages of Cottingham and Skidby, and hosts regional and county events for men, ladies and juniors.

3.6/5

"Hessle is one of the better parkland golf courses in Yorkshire."

The gently undulating property lends itself to some lovely holes, particularly the two-shotters.
