Golf Course Overview

Great Torrington Golf Club was founded in 1895, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in Devon, and moved to its present site at Weare Trees on Furzebeam Hill in 1932. The nine-hole heathland-cum-parkland course occupies a compact triangular site of around 26 acres within the northern section of the 365-acre Torrington Commons. Played over 18 tees with separate positions for the second nine, the course measures 4,458 yards (par 64, rating 62.8, slope 112). It is not a championship-length layout, but tightly mown heathland turf, well-drained fairways, changing tee positions and challenging green complexes combine to give a fair and interesting test, while the elevated setting delivers panoramic views across the Torridge River valley.

The member-owned and member-run club is proud of its reputation for friendly hospitality and well-maintained turf, with a clubhouse offering catering and bar service upstairs and a welcoming social atmosphere. Visitors are welcome all year round; handicap certificates are not required but a dress code applies. Great Torrington sits on the road between Great Torrington and Weare Giffard in rural North Devon, just seven miles from the historic links at Westward Ho! and within comfortable reach of Bideford and Barnstaple.
