David Brooks Reviewed Aug 2026

Very Good Value. Interesting layout and some challenging holes. The best Par 3 (6th) in York Union

Friendly and welcoming Bar and Catering - food and drinks are very good value for money.

A good days golf!

Golf Course Overview

Forest of Galtres Golf Club opened in 1993 and was designed by Simon Gidman. The 18-hole parkland course covers around 120 acres and measures 6,534 yards from the medal tees to a par of 72, with a standard scratch of 71, course rating of 71.8 and slope of 126. The flat, easy-walking layout features raised greens, strategically positioned lakes that serve both as irrigation reservoirs and as water hazards, and a computer-controlled pop-up irrigation system for tees and greens. The course takes its name from the ancient Forest of Galtres within which it sits.

The clubhouse offers bar and catering facilities, a pro shop with professional tuition and a welcoming atmosphere praised by visitors. The club hosts regular open competitions, including the Seniors Open, has active seniors, ladies and junior sections, and welcomes societies and visitors. It sits on Skelton Lane in Wigginton, only two miles north of the York Ring Road, giving easy access from the city and the surrounding region.
