 Golf Course Overview

Flackwell Heath Golf Club was founded in 1904 at Minchins Farm, following the purchase of land by three High Wycombe businessmen — James Peace, Arthur Clarke and Thomas Thurlow. The original nine holes were designed by James Sherlock, then professional at Oxford University Golf Club, and a second nine was added by the club's first professional John Turner in 1907. Harry Colt revised the layout in the 1920s, with further changes by Fred Hawtree in 1964 and more recent work by architect Ken Moodie. The course is an undulating heathland-parkland hybrid, measuring 6,142 yards to a par of 71, and is noted for its variety of holes, its well-crafted small greens and its superb turf; Walker Cup player and writer Bernard Darwin praised its velvety, gently undulating putting surfaces as far back as 1923. The course splits between flatter holes on the upper plateau and more dramatic, rolling holes on the lower slopes.

Flackwell Heath is a private members' club that actively welcomes visitors and new members, with no letters of recommendation required to join. The clubhouse has a patio bar serving food all day and a bright, airy function room enjoying fine views, available for hire for weddings and private events. Facilities include a pro shop, practice area and putting green. The club lies between Marlow, Beaconsfield and High Wycombe and is easily reached from the M40, with a glimpse of the course visible from the motorway just east of High Wycombe.
