Golf Course Overview
Filey Golf Club was established in 1897, with the main course laid out on its present site south of the town from 1899. The design is credited to James Braid, and the club is a member of the Association of James Braid Courses, while some later amendments have been attributed to Dr Alister Mackenzie during his Leeds period. The 18-hole course measures roughly 6,274 yards to a par of 71 with a rating of 70.2, blending clifftop links-style holes on the outward and closing stretches with a parkland middle section. Harry Vardon, while professional at nearby Ganton, famously played challenge matches here against Filey professional Fred Beck.
A 9-hole par 30 Academy course was added to the facilities on adjoining land, proving popular with beginners and visitors, with separate reduced-rate membership available. The modern clubhouse, built in 2002, houses bar and catering facilities, a pro shop and a practice area, and welcomes visitors and societies. The club is located on West Avenue, on the clifftop overlooking Filey Bay on the Yorkshire coast.
