Golf Course Overview
Fairhaven Golf Club is one of Lancashire's most prestigious and celebrated courses, founded in 1895 and moved to its current location in Lytham Hall Park in 1924. Originally shaped by James Braid and local professional J.A. Steer, the course was further refined by Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas in 1977 and later by Donald Steel and Jonathan Gaunt, resulting in a championship layout that measures 6,961 yards at a par of 72. An unusual blend of links and parkland characteristics, Fairhaven is entirely surrounded by trees and farmland yet sits on sandy subsoil that ensures year-round playability.
The course has served as an Open Championship Final Qualifying venue since 1952 when the Open is held at neighbouring Royal Lytham & St Annes, and its professional course record of 64 was set by Justin Leonard in 1996. Despite the accolades, the course remains not far from Lytham and St Annes town centres and provides a warm and accessible welcome to visiting golfers and societies.
