Exeter Golf and Country Club opened in 1929 and occupies a parkland setting at Countess Wear on the edge of the city, with the historic Wear House Victorian estate forming the heart of the property. The 18-hole parkland course measures 6,018 yards from the white tees and plays to a par of 69, with a course rating of 69.2 and slope of 117. Fairways wind through mature woodland on generally level ground, and the layout has recently been reshaped in a project overseen by respected architects Mackenzie & Ebert that has introduced new bunkering and a rebuilt 12th hole, with the full revised routing coming into play across 2026. The course rewards course management and accurate iron play rather than sheer length.

Exeter is a genuine country club rather than a pure golf venue, with heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a large gym and fitness studios, tennis, squash and racketball courts, a spa and multiple dining options open seven days a week. Junior coaching, club teams, weddings and corporate events are all offered, and the club runs a wide range of social and seasonal events. The site sits just off the A379 Topsham Road at Countess Wear, a short drive from junction 30 of the M5 and from Exeter St Davids station, with Exeter International Airport around 15 minutes away.
