Golf Course Overview
The Essex Golf & Country Club opened in 1990 on the former Earls Colne Airfield site and is now part of The Club Company Collection. The 18-hole championship County Course was designed by Reg Plumbridge and plays to a par of 73 at around 6,965 yards from the back tees, with a course rating of 73.6. The woodland layout is known for its fair but demanding shot values, water hazards requiring careful placement and a signature 13th defended by strategic bunkering. A separate nine-hole Garden executive course, also by Plumbridge, provides a shorter test at around 2,200 yards to a par of 34.
Facilities are extensive and family-focused: a 20-bay driving range, putting green, short-game area, clubhouse with bar and restaurant, hotel-style on-site accommodation, a health and fitness club with gym, pool and aerobics studio, plus tennis and padel courts. Members benefit from access to 29 Club Company venues across the UK. The club welcomes visitors every day and hosts society and corporate days throughout the season. Its position at Earls Colne is minutes from Colchester, with the A120 and A12 providing easy regional access.
