Golf Course Overview

Eastbourne Downs Golf Club is a classic downland course on East Dean Road, perched on the South Downs above Eastbourne with panoramic views over the town and English Channel. Founded in 1908 to a J H Taylor design — the five-time Open champion's only course in Sussex — the 18-hole layout measures around 6,579 yards from the white tees to a par of 72 (rated 72.6/127). The clubhouse moved to its current elevated position in 1973 with subsequent course alterations, but elements of Taylor's original 1908 design survive on several greens. Fast-running fairways, slick greens and challenging lies have made it a venue for the Amateur Open and EGU National Amateur Championship.

The club has a friendly atmosphere with men's, ladies', seniors' and junior sections, well-stocked pro shop and on-site PGA professional. The clubhouse offers a bar and restaurant — including homemade cakes and cream scones overlooking the course and sea — making it a welcome stop for non-golfers as well. Located at the start of the South Downs National Park, Eastbourne Downs is reached easily from the A259 and is well placed for visitors to the south coast.
