Golf Course Overview
Dyke Golf Club was founded in 1906 and sits 650 feet above sea level on top of the South Downs, taking its name from the adjacent Devil's Dyke valley. The original course is generally attributed to James Braid and was revised by Fred Hawtree in 1947. The 18-hole downland layout plays to around 6,653 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, opening with three par fives in the first five holes and featuring fast, true greens that drain readily on the chalk subsoil. Panoramic views stretch across the South Downs National Park, Brighton & Hove and out to the English Channel, and the ever-present sea breeze ensures no two rounds play alike.
The club houses the office of Sussex County Golf and hosts a wide calendar of county and inter-club events. Facilities include a refurbished clubhouse with dining and a scenic terrace, a pro shop that is part of Foremost Golf, an indoor Swingfit custom-fitting studio and a dedicated wedding and events operation. The course is around four miles north of central Brighton on Devil's Dyke Road, with quick access from the A23 and A27.
