Golf Course Overview
Designed by three local golf enthusiasts - Lachie Ross, Ian Morrison and Francis Keith - and opened in 1988, Durness Golf Club is the most north-westerly golf course on mainland Britain. The 9-hole links plays over two sets of tees to give an 18-hole round of 5,555 yards with a par of 70, set on the slopes rising above Balnakeil Bay. Loch Lanlish comes into play on the par-5 6th/15th, while the signature par-3 9th/18th demands a tee shot across an Atlantic inlet to a clifftop green.
The club has a modest clubhouse with an honesty box for when it is unattended, hire of clubs, buggies and trolleys (subject to advance booking), and a small practice area and putting green. Durness sits right on the North Coast 500 route, 57 miles north-west of Lairg, with Inverness Airport around 110 miles away as the nearest major transport hub.

Golf Empire Verdict
Durness
"They say that life’s all about the journey and not the destination but playing golf at Durness is without doubt both a journey and a destination."
From whichever angle you approach this incomparable links in the remote North-West corner of Scotland, near Cape Wrath, your eyes will feast upon some of the finest scenery Scotland has to offer. The inherent beauty comes from its rugged, barren, desolate and untouched nature.
