Golf Course Overview
Dunaverty Golf Club was founded in 1889 and is laid out on historic coastal ground at Southend, at the far south of the Kintyre peninsula beside Dunaverty Rock, traditionally linked to Robert the Bruce. The original course gave way to the modern 18-hole natural links shortly before the Second World War, and despite a period of disrepair the course was nurtured back into fine condition. The layout measures 4,799 yards to a par of 66, with seven par-threes, just one par-five, and a mixture of drive-and-pitch par-fours — several featuring blind tee shots or approach shots — across undulating dunescape with some of the finest greens in the region. Views extend to Sanda Island, Ailsa Craig, Ayrshire and the coast of Northern Ireland.
The recently refurbished clubhouse is small but friendly, offering snacks, teas, coffees and a range of essentials and Dunaverty-branded merchandise. Memberships can be paid via a monthly standing-order scheme, and visitors are made especially welcome. The club is a popular add-on to a Machrihanish or Machrihanish Dunes trip — rounds here typically take two to two-and-a-half hours — and sits close to the A83 on the road south from Campbeltown.

Golf Empire Verdict
Dunaverty
"I heard the squelch first. The gentle sinking sensation soon followed. However, it was a few seconds before I felt the warm, moist trickling sensation around my ankle. The smell came shortly afterwards."
I was momentarily frozen but I knew exactly what had happened before I glanced down at my pearly white Ecco golf shoes, the left one now not so pure. In lining up my approach to the first green I had stepped backwards into a freshly deposited cow pat.
