 Golf Course Overview

Dufftown Golf Club was founded in November 1896 originally as a nine-hole layout and was later extended to 18 holes, with the present pavilion opening in May 1930. After being returned to agriculture in the First World War and left neglected through the Second, the course was re-established and gradually developed into the 18-hole layout played today. The parkland course is short — measuring roughly 5,300 yards to a par of 68 — but carved from the natural contours of the Speyside hillside and by no means flat. Two of Dufftown's holes feature in the book "Britain's 100 Extraordinary Golf Holes" by Harvey and Strowger: the par-4 10th, which Sam Torrance has named on his "Ultimate Fantasy Course", plays from a tee at approximately 1,213 feet above sea level — among the highest in the UK — with a spectacular drop to the green; and the short 7th is often cited as one of the shortest holes in British golf. Rolling fairways are lined with heather and heath, and the overall setting is framed by the distilleries and hills of malt whisky country.

The clubhouse stocks golfing essentials, and club and buggy hire (recommended given the terrain) are available on request along with changing facilities, bar and catering. The club welcomes both visiting golfers and function hire. Dufftown sits on Tomintoul Road (B9009) a short distance from the centre of Dufftown itself, at the heart of the Malt Whisky Trail.
