Golf Course Overview
Darlington Golf Club was founded in 1908 and occupies an elegant parkland setting at Haughton Grange, on the north-eastern edge of the town. The course was laid out by the celebrated Scottish architect Dr Alister MacKenzie, who went on to design Augusta National, Royal Melbourne and Cypress Point among many others, and it remains one of the few surviving early MacKenzie layouts in the North East. The par-70 course measures around 6,217 yards with a slope of 131, and its signature challenge is the 550-yard 6th, "Pine Ridge", where even long hitters are usually forced to lay up short of a tricky green. Tree-lined fairways, subtle greens and a demanding rough reward accurate iron play.
The club has a well-appointed clubhouse with bar, dining room and function space, a pro shop, changing rooms, a driving range and a practice short-game area. Visitors are welcome Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) and the club hosts a strong programme of open events and county matches. Darlington sits on the north-east side of town off Haughton Road, easily reached from the A1(M) (junction 58) and the A66.
