 Golf Course Overview

Cullen Links Golf Club was founded in 1870, with the original nine holes laid out by Old Tom Morris along the coast. In 1905 Charlie Neaves, a former professional at Moray Golf Club, designed a further ten holes inland above the links, creating the unique 18-hole layout in use today. At roughly 4,623 yards with a par of 63, the course is widely considered the shortest true links in the world — yet with ten par 3s, just one par 5, dramatic red sandstone sea stacks and numerous blind shots, it is anything but easy. Holes two through six play on the elevated clifftop links, while the remainder return to beach level. The famous sequence from the 11th to the 14th features the 80-foot Boar Crag landmark, and the 7th — requiring a shot across a cliff face to a green hidden below — is among the most photographed holes in Scottish golf.

Cullen Links is part of the Old Tom Morris Trail and draws visitors from across the golfing world. The clubhouse offers a warm welcome, a shop stocked with clothing, balls and accessories, pull and battery trolleys to hire, and club hire (advance booking recommended). Caddies can be arranged in advance. The village of Cullen sits on the Moray Firth coast between Buckie and Banff, with dolphins frequently sighted from several of the holes; Inverness and Aberdeen are each around an hour's drive away.

"I’m not quite sure where to start when writing a review for Cullen. It’s probably the craziest, quirkiest course I’ve ever played. In truth I’m still a bit bamboozled by it all."

The location is nothing short of sensational; nestled in Cullen Bay on the Moray Firth Coast there is a sandy beach for company and spectacular sea views a constant companion.
