Golf Course Overview
Crook Golf Club was established in 1919 and sits on the hills east of the market town of Crook, at the gateway to Weardale. The 18-hole parkland and moorland-edge course plays to a par of 70 over approximately 6,076 yards and is set on a rolling hillside bordered to the north by a spectacular wooded dingle, with small ponds and wildlife sanctuaries dotted around the property. The small, slick greens and gently sloping fairways give it a reputation as one of the sterner tests in the county; blind drives, demanding carries (notably over the quarry on holes 3 and 7) and wide but side-sloped fairways reward accurate positional play, with sweeping views over the Durham and North Yorkshire hills.
Facilities include a friendly clubhouse with bar and function room, a pro shop led by club professional Peter Hartley offering tuition, custom fitting and a Performance Studio, plus buggy and equipment hire. Visitors and guests are welcome during the week and at weekends subject to members' events, and the club is accessed from the A690 between Durham and Willington, then through the village of Helmington Row to Low Jobs Hill.
