Golf Course Overview
Cromwell Course, Abbotsley Golf Club at Eynesbury Hardwicke near St Neots in Cambridgeshire was the more accessible of two courses at the Abbotsley Golf Hotel, offering a gently rolling 18-hole pay-and-play layout with wide fairways that made it ideal for higher-handicap golfers and visitors to the adjacent hotel. The entire Abbotsley complex — including the Cromwell Course, the main Abbotsley Course, a par-3 Huntingdonshire Course, and a 43-bedroom hotel — was forced to close in 2017 after vandals destroyed the greens by applying weedkiller overnight, causing damage so severe that the turf never recovered. The site fell into disuse, and planning permission was subsequently granted in 2024 to convert the former hotel and clubhouse buildings into 19 residential homes.
