Golf Course Overview
Croham Hurst Golf Club was founded in 1911 and is notable as Frederick George Hawtree's inaugural course design, laid out in collaboration with five-time Open Champion James Braid. The 18-hole parkland course plays to a par of 70 over approximately 6,305 yards, with lush springy fairways fringed by silver birch, beech and ancient oak. Each hole feels self-contained as the course extends in gently undulating loops up the valley from the south-facing clubhouse terrace. Classic Braid hallmarks — carefully sited bunkering, elevated greens and rolling fairways — combine with impeccable maintenance standards that extend to the unusually attractive teeing grounds bordered by flower beds and shrubbery.
The clubhouse is a popular social hub with a bar, restaurant and rooms available for hire for weddings, private functions and corporate events. The pro shop is led by PGA Professional Adam Aram and offers equipment sales, tuition and advice. Visitors and societies are welcomed by prior arrangement. Located on Croham Road in South Croydon at an elevation of around 500 feet, the club enjoys fine views across the Surrey countryside and is just two miles from central Croydon.
