Golf Course Overview
Crail Golfing Society was established in February 1786, making it the seventh oldest golf club in the world. The Society owns and operates two courses on the easternmost promontory of Fife (Fife Ness). The Balcomie Links, formally laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1895 (though competitions were played there from the 1850s), is a traditional links of around 5,800 yards with a par of 69 featuring three par-5s, six par-3s and nine par-4s – its 14th is arguably the most photographed hole, an elevated par-3 dropping to a heavily bunkered green above the beach. The Craighead Links, designed by American architect Gil Hanse and opened in 1998, is a more modern, longer links layout that features the Danes Dyke – a medieval stone wall – on several holes and panoramic views across the Forth to the Bass Rock and Edinburgh.
The large Balcomie Clubhouse sits high above the sea with a restaurant and spike bar offering locally-sourced menus and stunning North Sea views. Facilities include a driving range, practice area, putting green, pro shop, club hire (push, electric and buggy) and a highly regarded caddie service. Visitors and societies are welcomed every day via online booking or directly through the club; day tickets combining both courses offer excellent value. Located two miles north-east of the fishing town of Crail, the club is just 12 miles from St Andrews along the A917.

Golf Empire Verdict
Crail Golfing Society
"Of all the links golf courses around the Fife Coast the Balcomie Links at Crail must be the most picturesque of them all."
The view of the rocky coastline from the elevated, modern clubhouse is panoramically majestic and the scenery to feast on as you golf over the links is just about unrivalled in this part of the world.
