 Golf Course Overview

Coxmoor Golf Club was founded in 1913 and sits on a high heathland plateau close to Sutton-in-Ashfield, at nearly 600 feet above sea level making it one of the highest points in Nottinghamshire. The current 18-hole layout was developed in the 1930s by Tom Williamson, the Notts Golf Club professional, together with Coxmoor's own professional Len White, and more recently Ken Brown has advised on bunker and architectural changes. The course stretches to around 6,822 yards off a par of 73, with narrow fairways winding through heather and trees, five par 5s to tempt birdie-hunters, and the par 4s at the 5th and 12th widely regarded as the toughest holes. On a clear day the panoramic views from the 13th tee can stretch as far as Lincoln Minster.

An England Golf-accredited Championship Venue, Coxmoor has hosted Regional Open Qualifying, the British Seniors Amateur Open and the British Boys Championship. The clubhouse is known for its warm welcome, bar and restaurant, and the facility also houses a fully-stocked pro shop and Performance Studio for custom fitting and tuition. Situated near Mansfield and within easy reach of the M1, the club is a popular destination for visiting societies.

Golf Empire Verdict

Coxmoor

★★★★ ★
4.2/5

"Coxmoor Golf Club is currently three years into a 10-15 year project to restore their course back to its true heathland characteristic."

Almost 2,000 trees have already been axed, playing corridors are being widened and heather regeneration is in full force. Bunkers are also being re-shaped and re-positioned to accommodate golf in the 21st Century whilst a number of green extensions are also planned.
