Golf Course Overview
Cowdray Park Golf Club has been in play since 1904 on the Viscount Cowdray's 16,500-acre estate within the South Downs National Park. A private course was first laid out on the estate in 1906 by Scotsman Jack White, then the Professional at Sunningdale, and the layout was modified and lengthened by Fowler and Simpson in 1913 with Tom Simpson taking the leading role. The present 18-hole downland course measures around 6,325 yards to a par of 70, with only two par fives, both on the front nine at the 5th and 8th. Holes are lightly bunkered in keeping with the original design intent, and the testing stroke-index-2 par-four 2nd climbs sharply uphill to a raised, sand-guarded green.
The clubhouse was refurbished in 2018 under Lady Cowdray's direction and now offers a dedicated dining area, bar and comfortable seating, complemented by a full driving range with swing studio, a 5-hole academy course, short-game area and a Foremost pro shop. The course overlooks the Grade I listed ruins of Cowdray House and sits alongside the world-famous Cowdray Park Polo Club. Located just off the A272 on the eastern edge of Midhurst, it is easily reached from Haslemere, Petworth and Chichester.
