Golf Course Overview

Consett & District Golf Club was formed in 1911 and redesigned a few years later by six-time Open champion Harry Vardon. The mature parkland course covers around 100 acres of the Derwent Valley on the county border between Durham and Northumberland, playing to a par of 71 over approximately 6,083 yards from the white tees (5,906 yellow, 5,352 red). The well-groomed, tree-lined fairways are characterised by side-slopes that demand accurate positioning from the tee, and the slick plateau greens provide a stern putting test. Blind shots, testing bunkering and fast, undulating greens combine with panoramic views of the surrounding valley to give the course its distinct character.

The club is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and has a recently refurbished clubhouse with a bar, restaurant, new locker rooms for men and women, and function space used for weddings and other events. A pro shop run by the club offers tuition, custom fitting, equipment and buggy hire and access to indoor nets and simulator facilities, and visitors and societies are welcomed outside restricted times. Consett is easily reached from both Newcastle and Durham, sitting just off the A692/A691 corridor.
