Golf Course Overview
Colvend Golf Club was founded in 1905 with the original course laid out by Willie Fernie. It was redesigned in 1985 by Dave Thomas, extended to 18 holes in 1997 by John Souter of GTI — with input from broadcaster Peter Alliss — and further refined in-house for the centenary in 2005, with the new 15th, 16th and remodelled 12th opening in 2007. The parkland course measures about 5,487 yards to a par of 69, with undulating fairways, fast greens and plenty of water hazards. The par-4 dogleg 18th, protected by a burn to the front and side, a pond at the rear and trees on both sides, is regularly listed among Scotland's most picturesque holes.
The clubhouse at Sandyhills has lounge, bar, changing rooms and showers, with an equal footing for men and women that members are proud of. Catering, buggies and trolleys are all available and the club self-describes as "Scotland's friendliest". The course sits on the Solway Coast between Dalbeattie and the village of Colvend, in the area known as the Scottish Riviera, with views across to the Cumbrian Fells and, on a clear day, the Isle of Man. Access is straightforward from the A710.
